This section will contain a selection of notes and information gleaned from working with the suite to date.

System drawings and manufacturers' information are available on separate pages.

 

The vision system is based around a Ross Ultrix router and Rosss Carbonite Ultra vision mixer. Both are enabled for 12G working. most of the jackfield has been removed. Tielines and circuits leaving the suite are on jackfields.

 

Control is a subject of its own. TSL Tallyman and Ross's Dashboard are used. In time new interfaces will be designed to simplify operation. In the meantime there will be notes on specific operations with the control system such UMD editing and tally assignment.

Cameras

Cameras will continue to be hired for live events with ROH 950s and 1500s still in use for Insights and conductor camera.

The looms connecting to the CCUs are being labelled with function to ease rigging.

The media suite uses SDI character o/p from the CCU to feed the Decimator multiviewers. It may be necessary to hook up a PAL display to make the changes.

Legacy RCP cables are provided for each RCP. However these were remade for the re-fit and some are not working. Network cabling is provided but this will require the setting of IP addresses in the RCPs.

Ultrix Router

The router is enabled for 12G. 3 multiviewer licences are active to provide 2 multiviewers in production, the third for the large Samsung in the vision area.

It is possible to apply 'Ultriclean' to each o/p of the router. This is a 1/2 line delay that allows locked i/p signals of the same format to be synchronised and clean cuts to be made. Any i/p signal outside the 1/2 line window will still have new syncs inserted. BEWARE of this particularly in record feeds as the mixer has a minimum delay of 1 line. With Ultriclean switched on mixer out effectively drops a line.

Embedded audio is handled by the router and audio levels are included in the control system. MADI i/o also provides an audio interface for the router.

Record Feeds

The standard arrangement for cinema recordings is Main and 3 iso recorded on to the ROH server system using the EVS XS Via. Backup recordings can be made on the VEnice for HD or on individual Atomos Infernos for UHD. Atomos Studio recorders are used for the cinema DCP recordings (delivered to a post house for conversion and coding for DCP distribution)

A 3 x 16 TSL panel is in front of the director to allow them to cut the 3 iso feeds. Through the iso selectors it is possible to route spare outputs of the mixer thus allowing the vision mixer to cut some iso feeds.

BEWARE of Ulticlean on the router (see above). Ensure it is turned off for dedicated mixer feeds to recorders or in the situation where a mixer o/p is routed to a recorder via the iso cut panel.

VE Preview & Touchdowns

Assignment of touchdowns to VE positions and router sources is made in Tallyman. Selecting preset layouts, UMD labels and tallies for the Decimator multiviewers are set in Tallyman.  Multiviewer layouts are designed using Decimator software running on a laptop connected directly to the Decimator cards. Line Selector

The line selector as shown on the vision schematic is not in use. It works as far as signals are concerned but its GPIs don't allow the operation we need. Instead an output of the router is used. The EM's panels and the VE1 panel have been programmed to control the o/p. Mixer out, Caspar and Pyramix can be routed to line. Ultriclean means that mixer out is dropped by one line but this is of no consequence for cinemas.
